The World of AI: a newly-released elementary and middle school curriculum package

Check out these ready-to-use, standards-based STEM lessons that can be adapted for grades 3 - 8.

This Curriculum Package was created by two teachers for the purpose of introducing elementary and middle school students to current scientific research. It was developed as a result of the partnership between the University of Notre Dame’s Center for STEM Education, Center for Broader Impacts, and the Colón Research Group. As part of their NSF grant, Dr. Yamil Colón and his graduate students hosted two teachers for a week during Summer 2024 to shadow them in the lab and learn about their research and topics of machine learning and artificial intelligence. The teachers developed standards-based lessons to bring the research topics into their classrooms. During the 2024-25 academic year, they met twice a semester with members of the Center for Broader Impacts and the Center for STEM Education, shared their experience of lesson implementation and student assessment, and collaboratively integrated their lessons into this Curriculum Package.
